Myrtle Beach Calendar of Events MARCH 2010 11-13 National Shag Dance Championships -The National Shag Dance Championships (N.S.D.C.) originated in March 1984 and is celebrating its 26th year in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The N.S.D.C. is the longest running shag contest in the USA. The Nationals contest is the winner of two Feather Awards as "Best Swing Event in the USA." The contest will be held at Studebakers located at 2000 North Kings Highway. Preliminaries will be held on January 29th & 30th, 2010 with the Finals on March 11th, 12th & 13th, 2010. National winners have appeared on "Good Morning America", "CBS This Morning", "The Crook & Chase Show", "The Gatlin Brothers Show" and "From Nashville to Broadway". They have also performed exhibitions at Pro Basketball Halftimes, The Beach Ball Classic, the Pro Golfers Association Annual Banquet, the Beach Music Awards and many, many other events. 13-21 Can-Am Festival -Canadian-American Days Festival - attracting lots of Canadians who flock to Myrtle Beach during the March school vacation, the festival incorporates several activities, among them the Can-Am Cup YMCA Soccer Invitational and the International Kitefest. 27-27 Car Show in the Clouds -Spectators can view Mazda Miata’s ranging from completely “stock” to cars modified and customized into something completely unique. The Classic will be played on 3 courses at Myrtle Beach National, Long Bay and Aberdeen. Only 880 men and 128 women will be accepted for this event, which is the largest retired military event in the world.
