Community 2 Community As we all watched the devastation in Alabama from a string of tornadoes unfold on our news stations, two college students from Pawleys Island decided to do more than just sit and watch. Erica Elliott, from Clemson University, and Lizzy Notaro, a Tri-County Tech student, began brainstorming on how they could help. They developed Community 2 Community, Inc., a nonprofit corporation focused on providing disaster relief. Elliott and Notaro teamed up with two other Clemson University students, Elissa Bailey and Jenny DeLaere, and together they began to organize and develop C2C.

Even though the organization started on a small-scale, such as simply creating a Facebook group and posting flyers. Erica reached out to their hometown, Pawleys Island and Myrtle Beach for help and began setting up drop-off points all along the Grand Strand with the help of other volunteers. After being picked up by WBTW News Channel 13, the girls soon had enlisted the help of many Grand Strand restaurants, businesses, and churches. In only a few days, C2C had collected enough donations to fill a 14-foot U-Haul truck.

C2C is now collecting across the state of South Carolina. The following cities are participating: Pawleys Island, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Summerville, Mt. Pleasant, Hartsville, Florence, Clemson, and Greenville. Albemarle, NC, Erica's hometown, is also participating. What started in a college apartment quickly grew into a full-scale non-profit organization.

Sandcastle South is proud to claim Erica Elliott. As many of our previous guest know, Erica is our children's activities coordinator and has been for many summers. She is the one seen near the pool deck coloring with the kids, doing crafts and running the Miss Sandcastle Pageant for the hotel. Erica will be back at the kids activity desk this summer. You can stop by and see her or learn more about her organization at www.supportc2c.com.

The C2C volunteers have already made one trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama with 3 full trucks of donations. The group is also currently collecting for future trips to Alabama and areas affected by the Mississippi River flood. The group plans to continue making trips all summer and hopes to expand their efforts even farther and promises to always be there to lend a hand to those affected by uncontrollable disasters.

MYRTLE BEACH SKYWHEEL

Myrtle Beach will welcome its newest entertainment and dining venue in May 2011. The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will team up with Jimmy Buffett's Land Shark Bar & Grill and Land Shark Surfshack for an exciting new attraction on the oceanfront in downtown Myrtle Beach. The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will be 200 feet tall overlooking the Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade with Land Shark Bar & Grill right next door serving up delicious food and cool cocktails.

When asked about these exciting new plans, David Busker, CEO of Koch Development, developer of SkyWheel Myrtle Beach said, "Land Shark Bar & Grill I the perfect dining complement to the SkyWheel experience and we look forward to bringing this concept to the oceanfront boardwalk in Myrtle Beach."

The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will be one of the best ways to see Myrtle Beach. Take a ride in one of its 42 climate controlled gondolas that seat up to six people. Each ride lasts about eight to twelve minutes and offers panoramic views of Downtown Myrtle Beach and beyond. A state-of-the-art lighting system will give riders an amazing light show each night after the sun sets for an unforgettable Myrtle Beach experience.

Grab a cocktail or a bite to eat before and after your ride Landshark Bar & Grill, owned by the people of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. Landshark is a nod to classic "beach joints" that offer the best views, great food and cold drinks. Sit back with a Land Shark Lager and enjoy the sounds of your favorite beach songs and the waves crashing in the background. Situated just next to the 200 foot tall SkyWheel and Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, Land Shark Bar & Grill is the spot to soak in the ocean air. After you've satisfied your appetite (and hopefully your thirst), step into the Land Shark Surfshack for SkyWheel souvenirs and one-of-a-kind gifts

Wonderworks

WonderWorks will be making Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC its 4th home. 50,000 square feet in size and 97 feet in height, Wonderworks will be situated at the site of the former Crab House Restaurant. WonderWorks will have a dramatic exterior and be classically-designed with the appearance of landing upside-down.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans announced a new affiliate for their 2011 season after their 12-year history with the Atlanta Braves. The team has entered in a new four-year contract with the Texas Rangers. The Pelicans will serve as the Rangers' Class A-Advanced Carolina League affiliate. An exhibition game will be played against the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers in March where some of the top stars from the 2010 season will make an appearance.
